Performance was much more stable on a Windows 2000 box, but Media Jukebox could not handle QuickTime's auto-update. During testing, playback of these formats on our Windows XP test-bed resulted in frequent crashes. Media Jukebox supports QuickTime, Real, and Windows Media video files. River was reportedly negotiating with major record companies and is expected to withdraw Music01. River's Music01 service is a peer-to-peer service that allows members to play and download tracks from other member's computers. Of the many radio stations Media Jukebox lists, few actually worked. We also like the ability to export play lists into ASCII delimited, HTML, MPL, and M3U files. One unique feature was Media Jukebox's ability to clean up tags by removing leading and trailing spaces and by converting underscores to spaces. Like MusicMatch, Media Jukebox can search the CDDB by song title and attempt to find and complete track data, but this is inefficient and often inaccurate. Media Jukebox is the only jukebox we tested that doesn't look up data for tracks ripped when the computer is off-line once the system is connected to the Internet. This was much slower than MusicMatch Jukebox and RealOne but faster than Windows Media Player. In testing, Media Jukebox properly populated its database with data from Gracenote's CDDB, and converted our test CD, a 50-minute, 12-track album, to 128-Kbps MP3 files in 11 minutes 30 seconds.
